What Is a Marriage Certificate in Pakistan?

A Marriage Certificate is a certificate that officially documents a lawful marriage (Nikkah) between two persons. In Pakistan, this is usually issued in two formats;

  • Nikkah Nama (Hand written - Urdu)
  • NADRA Marriage Certificate (Computerised - English)

The NADRA Marriage Certificate is issued by NADRA and is the official and computerized marriage certificate which is acceptable in embassies, immigration offices, and institutions overseas.

Why You Need a Marriage Certificate

You will need a marriage certificate for:

  • Visa and immigration applications
  • Sponsoring a Spouse overseas
  • Legal documentation as proof of marriage in Pakistan or overseas

You are not directly required to go to Pakistan if you allow someone to be legally empowered to do it.
