What is Power of Attorney?

Requirements for Power of Attorney in Pakistan
If you want to prepare and register a PoA in 2025, you will ordinarily require:
- Copies of CNIC / NICOP of both Parties
- Copy of passport (as required by an overseas applicant)
- 2 - 4 passport sized photographs
- Stamped paper (cost varies depending on PoA type, typically Rs. 500 - 1,000)
- Affidavit / declaration of relationship (only sometimes required)
- Description of property, case or matter in question
- Witnesses (2, copy CNIC)
Where can you get a Power of Attorney made?
In Pakistan:
To create and register a PoA you must go to a notary public, a civil court, or a registered stamp seller, where they will draft and register the PoA, including, if appropriate:
- If a property is sold it must be registered with the sub-Registrar Office
- It must be executed in front of witnesses (i.e. parties). Sign it in front of two witnesses
- It must be verified with thumb impression and CNIC
From overseas:
If you are outside of Pakistan, you can:
- Draft the PoA and sign it at the nearest Pakistan Embassy / Consulate
- Notarize and legalize it / receive apostille in that country, in accordance with the country rules
- Send the signed PoA to Pakistan by Courier
- Your attorney or family member will then be able to submit it to MOFA / local registrar (if required)
